Our story
When we discovered just how outdated water testing in Ireland was there was absolutely nothing that could stop us from developing a superior, more accessible alternative.

Why did we build Puritee?
Hi! My name is Jack and I am the founder of Puritee. For my final year project in Product Design, I decided to focus on water safety because I believed it was a broad area where I could find a problem worth solving.
As I dug deeper, I ended up focusing on the prevention, testing, and treatment of microbes in water, and that’s when I realised something shocking—homeowners don’t have nearly enough testing options.
Did you know that an estimated 30% of wells in Ireland and the US are contaminated with animal and human faeces? I couldn’t believe it wasn’t talked about more!
I knew I wanted to change that, so I made it the focus of my thesis and developed a product to address the issue. That project ended up making me a finalist in the Student Entrepreneur Awards, held by Enterprise Ireland, and that’s when I started to feel like this was something I could really pursue as a career. I asked Dean on board straight after we had finished our thesis as co-founder, and with his enthusiasm and grit alongside his technical skills, I believe we can actually make a difference. We want to help homeowners feel a lot more confident about the water they’re drinking.

Research & Features
We have compiled some relevant and helpful research on water safety facts and figures in Ireland.
Jack Doyle excelled in woodwork and design in school and chose engineering, but soon realized it wasn’t the right fit. He switched to the TU Dublin Product Design course, which led to developing Íon, a water-testing kit for homes using well water. His project gained traction and entrepreneurial success.
With over 700,000 people in Ireland getting their water from private wells, it might be worth considering how heavy rain – and there’s been plenty of that this year – can impact on the safety of the water sourced from them With over 700,000 people in Ireland getting their water from private wells, it might be worth considering how heavy rain – and there’s been plenty of that this year.

In a country like Ireland we had a child die from a water-borne infection’ – 40pc of private wells contaminated, scientists warn
40pc of the country’s private wells are contaminated, with risks of serious E coli disease, scientists have warned – and half the population of rural Ireland could be affected. So why is there no State regulation or monitoring? If water samples from the country’s private drinking wells were taken, nearly 40pc would show levels of contamination.
About the Contaminants
Do you know what is in your water?
Below are some of the contaminants that Puritee tests for in your water.
Cryptosporidium
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes cryptosporidiosis, an intestinal illness often transmitted through contaminated water or food. Infections can lead to symptoms like diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting, particularly affecting young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
VTEC
VTEC, or Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli, is a type of bacteria that produces toxins causing severe gastrointestinal illness. Infections can result in symptoms such as bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, and in severe cases, can lead to kidney failure known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
